The Educational Drama in the Career of Counseling
Organisation that has implemented good practice: University of Macedonia, Ioanna Papavasileiou & Christina Zourna
Type of organisation: university
Target group: young people
Aim: to support career guidance of young people by experiential and innovative tools.
Experiential and innovative tool – Drama Training was researched and used in the development of decision making skills and self-sufficiency in career choices. During the drama training, appropriate real or fictional stories and diverse techniques are used to explore themselves and the environment around them – e.g., family, work, educational institutions. Students have to undertake various decision-making processes by finding, formulating and exploring various possible alternatives, dilemmas and solving problems, managing crises, and consequences. During the drama training, students participate as integrated personalities (sense and emotion) and as ‘acting’ subjects who act, react, interact and reflect on actions and decisions. The session lasts around 3 hours and includes a variety of activities – ice-breaking activities at the beginning, theatre techniques, role-model plays, self-reflection etc. The tool won 1st Prize among Greek nominees in the European Competition for Innovative Career Guidance Services.
